  • Learning preferences: Native language, target language, variant, and CEFR level
  • Usage data: Story progress, comprehension attempts, scores, and points
  • Ratings and comments: Your story ratings and optional feedback

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and personalise the learning experience
  • Track your progress and generate performance reviews
  • Improve our stories and AI-powered features
  • Send transactional emails (verification, password reset)
  • Communicate important service updates

3. AI Processing

When you use features like translation, explanation, comprehension evaluation, or vocabulary extraction, your text is sent to OpenAI's API for processing. This data is processed according to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. We do not use your learning data to train AI models.

4. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on Google Cloud Platform servers in Europe (Belgium, eu-west1). Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • OpenAI: For AI-powered learning features (translations, evaluations)
  • Resend: For transactional email delivery
  • Google Cloud: For infrastructure hosting

We do not use advertising networks or analytics trackers.

6. Cookies

We use a single essential cookie (lt-token) to keep you logged in. This is a secure, httpOnly cookie. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics cookies.

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR and similar regulations, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Update inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data
  • Portability: Export your data in a readable format

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

9. Children

LanguageTales is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email.
